Lubricants formulated and blended under the group’s Montow brand, for road, industrial and marine duty — specified against the operating conditions a machine actually sees rather than a catalogue category.
An engine oil is a system of additives suspended in a base fluid, and the balance between them is chosen against duty: load, temperature, contamination, drain interval and the consequence of failure. The same nominal grade can be right for one operator and wrong for another running identical equipment in a different environment.
This matters more in heavy duty than in passenger use, because the failure mode is not inconvenience. An offshore or industrial operator judges a lubricant on unplanned downtime avoided, not on price per litre.
Owning the blending step keeps formulation, quality control and supply under one roof. It is the same operating rule the group applies everywhere: it does not sell what it cannot make, and it does not own what it cannot run.
It also allows specification against duty rather than against a price point — including for the group’s own offshore operations, which are a demanding internal customer before they are a reference.
We would rather discuss duty than grade. Ambient range, load profile, contamination exposure, drain policy and the cost of an unplanned stop determine the answer. Where an OEM specification governs, it governs — but within it there is usually meaningful room to optimise for the actual operating environment.
